Rome, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, And Outdoor Water Fountains

There are many celebrated water fountains in the city center of Rome. One of the best ever sculptors and designers of the 17th century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini designed, conceptualized and constructed almost all of them. His expertise as a water feature creator and also as a city designer, are obvious throughout the streets of Rome. Bernini's father, a renowned Florentine sculptor, mentored his young son, and they ultimately moved to Rome, in order to fully express their art, primarily in the form of public water fountains and water features. An outstanding workman, Bernin earned encouragement and the the backing of popes and important painters. 94_192_5104_art_1__23476.jpg He was initially recognized for his sculpture. An authority in classic Greek engineering, he utilized this knowledge as a base and melded it gracefully with Roman marble, most notably in the Vatican. Although a variety of artists impacted his artistic endeavors, Michelangelo affected him the most.

Outdoor water features and bird feeders are a natural way to draw in wildlife and pets. All birds need somewhere to drink, bathe and preen. Robins, thrushes, orioles and warblers, though not attracted to bird feeders, are instead drawn to the motion of water produced by fountains. While bowl-shaped bird baths can be uninteresting to many birds, fountains are more enticing because of the moving water they generate. Birds are highly attracted to the trickling and splashing sounds produced.

Dogs like fountains as they provide another place to drink fresh water. Hot days drive dogs and cats to anxiously look for the freshest water around. Fountains generally need little cleaning due to their constantly flowing water, whereas birdbaths need to be regularly maintained because they easily collect debris.

The Best Way to Mount a Wall Water Fountain

Enhance virtually any room with the addition of a wall fountain. A waterfall will bring a sensation of relaxation with the comforting sounds of moving water. People tend to hang their wall fountains in entryways, but, in fact, they can be a wonderful addition to any room where everyone meets. How to install one varies a bit depending on the model, but there are some general instructions that apply to all of them. Be sure that all the different parts are used in assembling it.

Once you connect the base and the top you will then need to connect the pump and the water tubes. Be sure to review the instruction manual before starting to ensure it is done properly. The set-up process is quite simple to understand. Note, however, that the directions for your individual model can vary slightly. Have a colleague hold the wall fountain in the desired place, then mark the wall appropriately. To facilitate a proper line, use a level. It is suggested to mark both the bottom and the top positions. Wall fountains can be installed in a couple of ways. There are slots on the back which can be hung onto the screws you put on the wall. Alternatively, you might want to affix brackets to the wall and use those. The second option is best, particularly for larger wall fountains. Mark the spot on the wall where the brackets need to be installed. Drill pilot holes in the wall wherever you need to set the drywall anchors. Insert the anchors in the wall using a hammer. Use a cordless drill or a screwdriver to install the brackets, making certain they are straight. The wall fountain is all set to be mounted onto the brackets. Make sure that it is perfectly aligned and not loose. When you are sure the unit is secure, fill with water. There must be sufficient water to cover the water pump. Plug the pump into the wall and watch the water begin to flow. The water basin should be filled to about one inch below the top end. Note that it will overflow when not pumping if you fill it to the top. Whenever the water is not being pumped, it all settles at the bottom part causing the water level to rise. Whenever the fountain is overly full, water can spill out and cause damage to the surrounding area.

Taking Care Of Water Wall Fountains

A very important first step is to consider the dimensions of the outdoor wall fountain with regards to the space you have available for it. It will need a solid wall to support its total weight. Remember that smaller areas or walls will need to have a lightweight fountain. You will need to have an electrical socket in proximity to the fountain so it can be powered. Whatever the style of outdoor wall fountain you buy, they generally come with easy to understand, step-by-step instructions.

The typical outdoor wall feature is available in an easy-to-use kit that comes with everything you need and more to properly install it. A submersible pump, hoses and basin, or reservoir, are included in the kit. The basin can usually be concealed among your garden plants if it is not too big. Since outdoor wall fountains need little maintenance, the only thing left to do is clean it regularly.

Replace and clean the water on a regular schedule. Leaves, branches or dirt are types of rubbish which should be cleared away quickly. Furthermore, outdoor fountains should always be shielded from freezing temperatures in wintertime. Your pump may break when subjected to freezing water during the cold weather, so it is best to bring it indoors to prevent any damage. Simply put, your outdoor fountain will be around for many years to come with the correct care and maintenance.
