Gardens of Chatworth and its "Revelation" Garden Fountain

Created by popular English sculptor Angela Conner, "Revelation" is the latest addition to the Chatsworth decorative exterior water features. She was commissioned by the late 11th Duke of Devonshire to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth, in 2004/5 in celebration of the Queen’s 80th birthday celebration. brk-303-2__92712.jpg “Revelation” was installed in 1999 in Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s most seasoned ponds. The four large steel flower petals close and open with the circulation of water, alternatively concealing and revealing a gold colored globe at the sculpture’s center. Standing five meters high and five meters wide, the globe was built from metal and then coated with gold dust. This most recent fountain is an intriguing addition to the Chatsworth Gardens because the petals’ motion is completely run by water.

Water Features: A Necessity in any Japanese Landscapes

A water element is an important part of any Japanese garden. They tend to be put right at the entrance of Japanese temples and homes because they are regarded as being representative of spiritual and physical cleansing. It is uncommon to see extravagantly-designed Japanese fountains since the focus is supposed to be on the water itself.

Many people also opt for a water fountain that has a bamboo spout. The water moves through the bamboo spout and accumulates in the stone basin underneath. In addition, it is vital to the overall look that it appear as if it has been outdoors for a long time. So that the fountain seems at one with nature, people customarily adorn it with natural stones, pretty flowers, and plants. As you can probably guess, this fountain is symbolic rather than purely decorative.

If you are hoping for another sort of look and feel, you can also get a fountain made of stone, place it in a bed of gravel, and decorate it with natural stones and live bamboo. After some years it starts to really blend into the surrounding nature as moss blankets the stone.

More substantial water features can be designed if there is enough open land. Nice add-ons include a babbling creek or tiny pool with koi in it.

Japanese fountains, however, do not really need to have water in them. Potential alternatives include stones, gravel, or sand to symbolize water. The impression of a creek with running water can also be achieved by putting flat stones very closely together.
